Day 1: Bangkok – Khlong Khon – Hua Hin (Approx. 57 km cycling)
After picking you up from your Bangkok hotel, we will transfer approximately two hours to our Thailand cycling start point in Khlong Khon, a coastal area along the Gulf of Thailand characterized by salt pans, aquaculture farms, and mangrove forests. As we ride southbound along quiet secondary roads, we will pass through a vast, well-maintained landscape where sea salt is harvested on a large scale and a variety of seafood, particularly shrimp, is farmed. We will cycle through fishing towns, cross bridges over estuaries, and pass glittering Buddhist temples. After approximately 57 km, we will take a break for lunch at Chaosamran Beach. Just ahead, the road merges with the busy highway, so we will transfer by van for the final stretch to Hua Hin (about one hour). This town is a favored beach retreat from Bangkok for both locals and tourists, and we will spend the night at an elegant resort.
Day 2: Hua Hin – Prachuap Khiri Khan (Distance to be confirmed by guide)
We will navigate out of Hua Hin along the main road and dedicated cycling paths before proceeding through farmlands to reach Pranburi Beach, approximately 25 km into the day. Continuing along the coast for another 20 km, we will then turn inland toward Sam Roi Yot National Park. Sam Roi Yot translates to ‘Three Hundred Peaks,’ an apt description for this picturesque landscape of limestone cliffs surrounded by freshwater marshes. We will cycle on smoothly paved roads winding through valley floors, flanked by shrimp farms and overlooked by majestic peaks. At approximately 70 km, we will return to the coastal plains and pause for lunch. Afterward, we will undertake a long stretch along a secondary road that runs parallel to the historic railroad connecting Bangkok to the southern provinces. Finally, we will be greeted by the stunningly blue waters of the Bay of Prachuap Khiri Khan, where our ride for the day will conclude.
Day 3: Prachuap Khiri Khan – Baan Grood (Distance to be confirmed by guide)
Departing from the hotel, we will arc around the scenic twin bays that embrace Prachuap Khiri Khan. After a short 9 km ride along the shoulder of the main road, we will return to peaceful backcountry roads. As we ride, you will notice more coconut and rubber plantations lining our path, a clear sign that we are nearing the deep south of Thailand. By approximately 50 km, we will reach Thap Sakae Beach, enjoying a very beautiful stretch along the seashore before again veering inland, cycling under the canopies of endless waves of palm trees. We will then complete the distance to our lovely seaside resort on Baan Grood Beach, a quiet stretch of golden sands where we will spend the next two nights.
Day 4: Baan Grood Rest Day
Today is a well-deserved rest day. Guests are invited to lounge by the beach, take a refreshing dip in the resort’s pool, or indulge in a soothing Thai massage to rejuvenate muscles. Lunch and dinner are not included today, but your guide will be pleased to offer recommendations for excellent local eateries in the area.
Day 5: Baan Grood – Chumphon (Approx. 70 km cycling)
With our legs rested from yesterday's leisure day, we are set to cover significant ground. Today's route traverses Thailand’s narrowest geographic area, with the Myanmar border merely 20 km away at certain points. We commence by riding along Baan Grood’s tranquil, palm-fringed beach road and through countryside lanes before transitioning to a wider road that leads us through the lush estuaries of coastal Thailand. At approximately 60 km, the road begins to narrow, guiding us into a seemingly endless expanse of coconut and palm oil plantations. We then increase our pace as we ride on a dedicated bike lane alongside the main road. After approximately 90 km, we will reach Ao Bo Mao Bay, where we will pause for lunch at a beachside restaurant. Subsequently, we will cross a bridge offering scenic views of fishing boats before completing the final stretch to Saphli Beach in Chumphon Province, where we will spend the night. We invite you to treat yourself to a fresh coconut or an ice-cold beer (or both) to commemorate today’s epic ride.
Day 6: Chumphon – Ranong (Longest distance of the tour)
Today marks a significant milestone in our tour as we cross the Isthmus of Kra, which separates the Gulf of Thailand to the east from the Andaman Sea to the west. Although this constitutes the longest distance of the trip, we will maintain a steady pace with regular stops for replenishment. As there are limited roads through the mountains, we will spend the majority of the day on the main thoroughfare, which fortunately features a wide shoulder. Commencing from the coast of Chumphon, we will proceed west for approximately 60 km along an undulating road that winds through the lush, jungle-clad mountains of the region. The elevation changes, twists, and turns will create a dynamic riding experience. Subsequently, we will arrive at the valley of the Kra Buri River, which serves as a natural boundary between Thailand and Myanmar. The river gradually widens into an estuary that flows into the Andaman Sea. Continuing along the valley floor, we will reach the Pun Ya Ban Waterfall, where a challenging 3 km climb presents a final ascent before we arrive in the city of Ranong. Renowned for its spa culture, fishing industry, and proximity to the border, Ranong offers a distinctive atmosphere.
Day 7: Ranong – Suk Samran (Distance to be confirmed by guide)
We will depart from Ranong and proceed south along the main provincial thoroughfare that runs inland. The ride is largely undulating as we traverse the foothills of the Tenasserim Range. The road is lined with coconut, rubber, and palm oil plantations, alongside numerous villages, towns, and mosques, showcasing an interesting cross-section of rural living on the Andaman Coast. At approximately 60 km, we will encounter a short but steep ascent before continuing alongside the forests of the Khlong Na Kha Wildlife Sanctuary to the east. Our ride will conclude in the district of Suk Samran, situated in the southernmost part of Ranong Province.
Day 8: Suk Samran – Khao Lak (Distance to be confirmed by guide)
We will cross into Phang Nga Province, cycling along a beautiful road that leads us deeper into southern Thailand, surrounded by lush rolling hills and vibrant farmlands. After approximately 20 km, the road widens and becomes busier as we pass through Khura Buri, but it soon quiets down again as we venture further inland. Here, a winding climb takes us into a neighboring valley, offering scenic views. At approximately 80 km, we will reach the historic town of Takua Pa, where we will explore its rich past as a prosperous hub of the lucrative tin mining industry in the 19th and early 20th centuries — a legacy preserved in the Chino-Portuguese merchant houses that still stand today. We will enjoy a leisurely cycle through town and have lunch before taking back roads that meander through small villages and shady rubber plantations. Our ride will conclude at the sun-kissed sands of Khao Lak, where we will saddle off for the afternoon and unwind at the resort.
Day 9: Khao Lak – Phuket (Approx. 65 km cycling)
This marks the final leg of our journey. From Khao Lak, we will proceed along the main road, making a stop after approximately 11 km at the International Tsunami Museum to gain insights into the profound impact of the 2004 disaster. Continuing onward, we will navigate a scenic ascent over a headland and conquer additional hills as we approach the island of Phuket. At approximately 60 km, we will diverge onto side roads leading to the coast, passing through charming fishing communities and lagoons. Following a lunch break, we will cycle along tree-lined Natai Beach before undertaking the iconic crossing over the Sarasin Bridge, which connects the mainland to Phuket. The concluding 20 km will take us along the island's roads to our resort on the vibrant Nai Yang Beach, an ideal location for tonight’s celebration of our extensive mountain bike tour from Bangkok to Phuket. Our GlobalByBike's service concludes upon arrival at your booked hotel in Phuket.
